Coastal Youth Media empowers young people in coastal North Carolina to tell their own stories through journalism, podcasting, and digital media. By providing training, mentorship, and community storytelling opportunities, we equip youth with the tools to document history, advocate for their communities, and shape the future.

Where I Come From

Where I Come From is a youth storytelling project of Coastal Youth Media that guides young people through workshops in writing, audio recording, and storytelling. The project culminates in original narratives that reflect the voices, identities, and lived experiences of youth in coastal North Carolina.

Documentary Institute

The Summer Documentary Institute is an intensive, hands-on program where youth learn to create powerful stories through film, photography, and audio. Participants gain technical skills, explore the connections between storytelling and social change, and produce original documentaries rooted in their communities.
